First Jewellery item for Sale on Etsy!

Wow, I never thought I would get here.

Still tearing my hair out whilst trying to get a decent photograph of my jewellery, I thought that I would never manage any more than to get a few bead sets for sale on Etsy.

However, after playing around with backgrounds, lighting angles, camera height etc I have finally managed to get a good picture of this necklace.

I am so pleased because I really like this piece and I hope it will go to a good home.

Actually there are 5 decent pics so please take a look at my listing:
and let me know what you think :)

Wow, if I carry on like this I might have 10 items listed by the end of the year!!

Lichfield Clay Day

We had the first West Midlands polymer play session yesterday. We met at the Flamingo Tea Rooms in Lichfield where there is a small room within the cafe, available for hire.

The room was nice and cool, a break from the mini heatwave we have been having in Britain. Food and drinks were available from the cafe and I was rather pleased to see that they had some cupcakes available :)

There was a comfortable number of us for the first session and we were able to assess the venue for suitability. Well, it's definitely a goer! There was jazz being played in the background and the room is painted in calming colours which gave a very relaxing feel. A highlight of the day for me was the pink chair that I had to sit on.

What a great way to clay!

Watercolour beads on Etsy

I made these beadies a good while ago and I loved the outcome of them so much, I put them into a box for beads that would eventually be sold.

That was about a year and a half ago, I know that because I found the old post on blogger :) http://floraeme.blogspot.co.uk/2010/11/new-beadies.html

So after finally setting up my Etsy shop, I have now added these scrumptious warm watercolour beads bringing items in my shop to a whopping 3. I will get there one day.

Find them in my shop here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/100469658/watercolour-bead-set-lentils-and-round

The first items up for sale are these fetching bead sets:

Beadweaved Necklace Take 2

Do you remember a while ago I finished a necklace that I had specially made a polymer clay focal bead for? Well, here's a reminder of the finished necklace if not.

I love, love love the focal bead, but I made the necklace with seed beads and they were too big to work in the pattern I was using. The drop just looked like a big blob! If you want to see my comments on that one have a look at the blog post

Not wanting to be outdone, I took the necklace to bits in the hope of remaking it with smaller cylinder beads. I found a colour of cylinder that worked really well and made up the necklace again.

Hmmphf to say the least.

The necklace looks a lot better and the drop is so much more delicate now ... but it hangs to the side when I wear it and just doesn't look right.

Such a shame.

I put plenty of time into this, so I'm planning on it being a decorative piece for the moment. Maybe I will even frame it - ah probably not I'd like to use the focal bead and delicas again.

At least I can say I am an expert at twisted tubular herringbone stitch now :)

Creatures from Christi Friesen Workshop

Well I didn't get much finished at Christi's workshop - read all about that here: http://floraeme.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/christi-friesen-creature-feature.html - so I dedicated  the following day to making all I had learnt from the workshop. I even made a second sea turtle which I am much happier with.

Here are my follow up Christi makes :)

My polymer clay dragon - he is protecting his hoard of treasure.

My big fish - love his scales :)

My Celtic Dragon

Fawkes the Phoenix's sister

My seahorse aquarium - I spilt the glitter chunks on the sea here - I didn't intend there to be so many!

And finally my improved sea turtle!!

Christi Friesen Creature Feature Workshop

I was able to attend Christi Friesen's Creature Feature workshop in London earlier this week. Whoop! The day was packed full of Christi's demos showing us how to make all kinds of creatures from peacocks to sea turtles to celtic dragons. There was even an opportunity to buy  items from Christi's store and some of her work, although the shop was looking a little bare having been very popular the day before for Christi's In the Garden workshop.

I was able to snag this little fellow though from Christi's Ghoulie collection. I love his purple-blue hair.

Here is Christi modelling him.

We were taught so much that day I didn't seem to get much finished. I don't know what happened, some people made about 6 items but I only finished 2! One is a sea turtle which is now in the bin (!) and the other is this Octopus who is exploring the treasure chest he found.

Here is a shot of Christi teaching - Christi is so funny I don't know how she packs all the work and jokes in :)

And one of the group. The event was organised by the London Polymer Clay Group - a big thank you to them for such a great day.

I've been so busy lately I forgot to show you all a sneak peak at my latest article in the current issue of Bead Magazine. In this one, I show you how to make a cute "Day at the Seaside" charm bracelet in issue 38, Summer Special 2012.

Here's a snippet of the finished bracelet as it appears in the mag

and here's a shot of the introduction.

My choc ice lollies even made the cover!

Here is the finished bracelet, taken with my signature photographic ability ;)
